Best Breastfeeding Pillows Reviews

Breastfeeding your baby is a skill that takes time and patience. Hunching over your baby? Painful after a while. Trying to keep your hands at a proper height to maintain a good latch? Painful. Recovering from a c-section and baby just seems to be resting on your painful scar while feeding? OUCH. I don’t know about you but these aren’t my ideas of a relaxed feeding session. Having a good breastfeeding pillow can make the experience a lot more pleasant. Not to mention, give some much-needed hand, neck and back pain relief.

Yeah. I get it. You want a breastfeeding pillow but there are just so many to choose from so how do you decide? Don’t worry, I’ve narrowed it down for you. I’ve reviewed some excellent choices with different styles. It all depends on what you want.

This pillow has been moms’ best friend for over 25 years. It is comfortable and supportive, allowing moms to breastfeed or bottle-feed with ease without over straining neck and back muscles. This C-shaped pillow is soft and extremely versatile, growing with your baby up to 1 year old. Because of this, it has been to go-to for mothers for many years.

The Boppy pillow is a hypoallergenic pillow made of cotton and polyester so even the most delicate babies can use it. If you’re one who likes to have options, the Boppy has a variety of slipcovers (sold separately) to make your pillow the best for you.

Product Specs

Size: 20 x 5.5 x 16 inches

Weight: 2.6 pounds

Pros

  • Versatile. Not only is it used as a support for feeding, but you can also prop your baby if you need to give your hands a break. As baby grows, the Boppy can be used for tummy time and then as a seat support when your baby is now mastering the art of sitting on her own.
  • Variety of designs. Each mama and baby is unique and Boppy offers a wide variety of slip cover designs.
  • Machine Washable. Messes happen and no one wants a dirty pillow. Its easy zip-off slip covers are machine washable. Worried about those messes reaching the pillow itself? That is machine washable too!
  • No buckles or straps. A hungry baby is not patient! No straps or buckles means that you can just slip the pillow around your waist and begin feeding. Easy breezy.
  • Soft. The slip covers are soft for baby’s delicate skin. If you want even more plushness, try the Luxe version covers.
  • Durable. There’s a reason why moms love it so much. It can be used over and over again without losing its shape.

Cons

  • Not one size fit all. This pillow is for slim to average women. The waist section is not expandable and isn’t suitable for larger women.
  • Doesn’t stay in place. The pillow will need to be repositioned if you move or change positions.
  • Can be difficult to get a good position. Sometimes an extra pillow is needed to lift baby’s head to a proper height to achieve a good latch
  • Not travel friendly. Although it’s lightweight, it is a bit on the larger side and it doesn’t fit in baby’s bag.

I believe the boppy came out about the time I delivered my last child.   Since I already had two, I didn’t see the need in this pillow.  But looking back, it is a wonderful idea.  Since I am going to become a grandma for the first time, I am going to get this pillow for my daughter-in-law.  I think she is going to love it!  Thanks for the great review.

    1. The Boppy has definitely been my go-to above all.
